Policy Forum on Prospects of China's Agricultural Economy in 2030


On November 19th, 2010, the Final Policy Forum of the CATSEI project was held in Beijing, addressing the opportunities and challenges of China’s agricultural economy until 2030. This Forum marked the end of the CATSEI project that started in 2007, co-funded by the European Commission and implemented by SOW-VU, the Center for Chinese Agricultural Policies of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (Beijing), the International Institute of Applied Systems Analysis (Laxenburg, Austria), the School of Oriental and African Studies of the University of London, the Agricultural Economics Research Institute (The Hague), and the International Food Policy Research Institute (Washington DC).

 

The Forum was well attended by a mix of policy makers, researchers and foreign representatives. More than 60 officials and experts from 37 governments, research institutes, and universities, such as Ministry of Agriculture of China, Ministry of Commerce of China, State Administration of Grain of China, National Natural Science Foundation of China, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), World Bank, Delegation of the European Union to China, Standford University, China Agricultural University. 

 

Opening speeches were delivered by Dr. Hongxing Ni, Director-General of the Agricultural Trade Promotion Center of the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture, and Dr. Jessica Mitchell, Science and Technology Attaché of the Delegation of the European Union to China. The presentations by the CATSEI-partners were followed by lively discussions in which several participants expressed the usefulness of continuing cooperative work along these lines.
